Born 1944 in Einsiedeln. Studied art history, archeology, philosophy and math.

Teaching positions in Zürich, Cambridge and at the Freie Universität Berlin. 1980-85 professor in Bonn, since 1985 professor for art and architectural history at the ETH (Technological University) Zürich. Since 1986 Head of the Institut for History and Theory of Architecture. Since 1981 copublisher of the magazine “Daidalos (Architecture – Art – Culture)”. Organizer of numerous exhibitions.

Werner Oechslin lives in Zürich.
