Vanessa Emde studied from 2003 to 2009 comparative literature and gender studies at Humboldt University and Freie Universität in Berlin/Germany. During her studies she created several performances in the context of the feminism and queer scene in Berlin, as well as the video-performance Blickkontakt for the Onyva gallery in Maastricht/Netherlands and the theater play DRAG. Until 2012 she studied theater direction at the Academy for Performing Arts in Ludwigsburg, where she wrote and staged several theater plays, including Ich. Ein biografisches Projekt and Geht ein Pfirsich ins Schwimmbad…, just as the play Von toten Vögeln. Ein matrilineares Doku-Märchen, presented 2012 at the Körber-Studio Junge Regie festival at Thalia Theater in Hamburg/Germany und Keinort. Lost in presented in 2012 at the Brotfabrik Berlin.
Since 2013 she has been working as director and playwright. Her latest work was Kein Aufstand (»Tkalci«) on motifs by Gerhart Hauptmann, Sarah Kane and the Unsichtbare Komitee at Cinoherni Studio in Ústí nad Labem/Czech Republic, 2013.
Vanessa Emde is a fellow in cooperation with Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg.
