Sharmistha Mohanty

Born 1959 in Calcutta/India.

Studied English at the Calcutta University and creative writing at the University of Iowa, USA.

Worked as a journalist for The Telegraph, Calcutta and free-lanced for several Indian magazines and newspapers on arts and social issues.

Works as a screen-writer and as a fiction writer.

1995 publication of her first novel “Book One”. An extract of the book will be published in the forthcoming “Indian Contemporary Literature” anthology (Picador, Great Britain).

Currently working on her second novel “New Life”.

1995 fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Culture, India.
