Bambitchell is an artistic collaboration based in Toronto/Canada between Sharlene Bamboat and Alexis Mitchell. The duo met while completing their master’s degrees at York University in Toronto, from which Sharlene Bamboat graduated with a MA in cinema and media studies (2007–2009).
As a duo they have been producing mixed-media installations since 2008 that were internationally exhibited in galleries and festivals, including shows at the Art Gallery of Windsor, Canada (2015), Images Festival in Toronto (2014), and Ice Follies in North Bay/Canada (2014). Their practice uses queer and feminist frameworks to re-imagine borders, historical patterns of mobility, labor, migration and memory. They have given numerous public talks, such as the Annual Conference of the College of Art Association (2015), and are part of a wide range of publications including the forthcoming book Mobile Desires: The Erotics and Politics of Mobility Justice.
Bambitchell was awarded multiple commissions and residencies, including an upcoming residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute, NM/USA, the Homebrew Award from the Images Festival for their project Silent Citizen (2014), as well as upcoming exhibitions at Gallery 44 in Toronto and Articule in Montreal/Canada.
