Born in Turkey, she spent her childhood and adolescence in different parts of the country before emigrating to Vienna/Austria in 2009.

Seda Tunç holds a BA in English Literature (University of Istanbul/Turkey) and an MA in American and English Literature (University of Vienna). She has published pieces in English, German and Turkish as well as literary translations between these languages. WELCH, her first collection of poems in German, was published in 2021 (edition mosaik).

Tunç’s writing combines a multi-genre stances with a dialogue between philosophy, politics, and surreal imagery, exploring new possibilities of form. Her most recent poetry addresses the politics of national borders, structural violence, and displacement.

She has held creative writing seminars for young people in Vienna who have experienced displacement, migration, and flight, encouraging them to write multilingually.

She is recipient of the residential fellowship for writers from the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin/Germany (2024), as well as a fellowship from the Junivers international seminar of poetry translators (Deutscher Übersetzerfonds, 2024). Other distinctions include a project grant from the City of Vienna (2023), a fellowship from the Akademie für Lyrikkritik at the Haus für Poesie Berlin (2021/2022) and several work grants from BMKÖS Vienna.
