Born in Belo Horizonte/Brazil in 1988.
Sara Lana is a Brazilian artist and developer. She studied mathematics and electric engineering at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais , Brazil (2007–2015), where she collaborated with the Center for Research on Musical Gesture & Expression.
Her projects are located at the interface of art and technology. She often uses multiple media such as sound, electronics and video, also using illustration and cartography as important elements throughout her creative process.
In 2019, Lana was awarded the Brazilian Bolsa Pampulha fellowship for the piece Species of Spaces. She was also an artist-in-residence in several spaces dedicated to art, sound and technology.
Her project Blind Spots was hosted by Red Bull Station, Sao Paulo/Brazil (2017), Media Lab MX, Mexico (2018) and Centro de Cultura Digital, Mexico (2019). Her sound pieces were broadcast on radio stations including Orelhinha, Brazil (2021), exhibited at Seres Rios Festival, Brazil (2021) and Mutt Dogs, Brazil (2017) and presented at Centre Pompidou, Paris/France and also received nominations at the Phonurgia Awards, France (2018).
Sara Lana is also a member and former executive director (2019–2021) of Silo, a non-profit organization dedicated to art, science, agroecology and technology in rural areas.
