Born in 1981 in Cluj-Napoca/Romania.
Petra Szöcs studied german studies at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest/Ungarn (1999–2005) and screenwriting at the University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest (2004-2009). With a ERASMUS scholarship she studied in Groningen/Netherlands (2003) and with a DAAD fellowship in Freiburg/Germany (2004). She further participated in the EKRAN programme at the Warsaw Film School, Poland (2010).
Her shorts The Slavey and Hide-and-seek were shown at the Hungarian Film Week, Budapest, Trieste Film Festival, Italy, and the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), Cluj-Napoca. In her films, Petra Szöcs prefers to work with amateur actors. Her short film The Execution was selected for the official selection of the 67th Festival de Cannes (2014). Her first volume of poems Kétvízköz was published in 2013.
In 2014 she won the prize for the best first book. Currently, she is working on her new volume of poems Cold Cure and a new short film Strong Chin, High Forehead together with Gergő Nagy V.
Petra Szöcs is a participant in the exchange program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and Hungarian writers of the József Attila Circle (JAK) in Budapest.
