Born 1980 in Neu-Ulm/Germany.
After completing an apprenticeship as decorator, Patrick Ritter studied empirical cultural science, sociology and English literature at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen/Germany.
Between 2004 and 2007 he completed several internships at theaters and broadcasting corporations. Furthermore, he assisted in stage direction, dramaturgy and stage as well as costume design at the Landestheater Tübingen and at the Stadttheater Heidelberg/Germany, where he worked amongst others under Martin Nimz (Schillers Die Räuber) and Ole Georg Graf (Shakespeares The Tempest). He completed several journalistic internships at Schwäbisches Tagblatt, Reutlinger Tübinger Fernsehen and Prometheus – das Wissenschaftsfernsehen für Baden-Württemberg. Besides, he also realized several small video projects.
In 2008/2009, Patrick Ritter received a fellowship from Friends of TowerAteliers e.V. (Tuttlingen) and worked as assistant director, interviewer and exhibition designer on a social, scientific and artistic documentation project (inside southside) about the Southside festival in Neuhausen ob Eck/Germany. Results were the documentation Summer’s Almost Gone, directed by the French filmmakers Benoit Mery and Remi Pinaud as well as the exhibition Southside – ein Festival zwischen Subkultur und Kommerz in Tuttlingen/Germany.
Besides his involvement in media theory and praxis, one of Patrick Ritters main interests in the field of cultural science is the sociological and aesthetic treatment of sustainable development. In his midterm paper, he mainly focused on the development of a solar village in Baden-Württemberg and his master’s thesis dealt with the communicative structures of an ecological internet platform. For the research project Grenzraumsee – eine ethnographische Reise durch die Bodenseeregion, he wrote the article Global denken, lokal handeln – regional koordinieren? Symbolik und Praxis im Umweltschutz des Bodenseeraums.
From December 2012 until November 2013 Patrick Ritter is a coordination fellow in the art, science & business program.
