Born 1956 in Bucharest/Romania.
Studied and completed his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Literature, University of Bucharest. Active as an associative professor at the University of Bucharest, writer, essayist and literary critic.
Various publications include: The Encyclopaedia of the Dragons (2001), Daily Notes (diary, 2001), Orbitor (novel, 2002), Forever young… (essays, 2004), Cateva Motive Pentru Care Iubim Femeile (A Few Reasons Why We Love Women, short stories, 2005).
As one of Rumania’s leading contemporary writers his works have been translated into numerous languages and awarded international prizes. Member of Romanian Writers Union, the Romanian Pen Club and the ASPRO Writers Union.
Fellow of the International Writers Program (Iowa City, 1990), the Rockefeller Foundation (Bellagi/Italy, 1997), and the Artists-in-Residence program of the DAAD (Berlin, 2001).
