Miako Klein lives as a freelance musician in Berlin/Germany. Her main focus is new music, old music and free improvisation. She was guest of Ensemble Modern, ICE International Contemporary Ensemble and Quartet New Generation. She also works as musician and performer in the ensemble DorkyPark. As founding member of apparatus musicus berlin she regularly plays together with trumpeter Sava Stoianov as well as with Mduo and various chamber music formations for new music and improvisation. 2010 and 2011 she was musician at Cirque du Soleil for the Show ZAiA.
Miako Klein was guest at Ultraschall Festival Berlin, MATA-Festival NYC, USA, Early Music Festival Barcelona, Spain, Boulevard Festival s’Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, Zeeland Nazomerfestival, Netherlands, De Suite Muziekweek Amsterdam, Netherlands, Musica Strasbourg, France, Festival ’AIX en Provence, France, and Klangwerktage Hamburg, Germany. Recordings of her performances were broadcasted on HR, DLF, WDR3, arte and Concertzender.
As daughter of a pianist she has been musically educated in early childhood and attended classes in recorder by Gudula Rosa at Westfälische Schule für Musik in Münster and in violin by Tor-Song Tan. Later, she studied recorder »with honors« by Prof. Paul Leenhouts and violin by Prof. Lex Korff de Gidts at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Amsterdam School of the Arts, and completed her studies with a masters degree in music. In addition, she received private classes on the recorder by Winfried Michel and Walter van Hauwe and on the violin by Prof. Martin Dehning and Prof. Vesselin Paraschkevov. Currently she studies under Prof. Christoph Huntgeburth at Berlin University of the Arts.
Miako Klein has been successful in various competitions. On several occasions she received the first award at Jugend musiziert and received the first place prizes at the international recordist competitions SONBU in Utrecht/Netherlands and in Engelskirchen/Germany. She has received awards by Stadtsparkasse Köln, Germany, the city of Erlangen, Germany, IRINO-Foundation Tokyo, Japan, and Zonta-Club Münster.
