Born in 1980 in Cleveland, OH/USA.
Barden studied composition with Lewis Nielson and Randolph Coleman (VAF), and piano with Monique Duphil at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, OH/USA. Following graduation in 2003, he moved to Europe with the support of a Thomas J. Watson fellowship to investigate the performance practice of Alfred Schnittke’s music.
Since April 2004 he has been living and working in Berlin, where he studies with Rebecca Saunders.
