Mariana Jochamowitz

Born 1987 in Lima/Peru.

Mariana Jochamowitz is an architect based in Lima/Peru. Since her thesis project for a Marine Museum in Peru, she has been interested in architecture as a tool to drive sustainable development in her country. This interest has been developed with her architectural studio Jochamowitz Rivera Arquitectos, which she opened, together with Nicolas Rivera, in 2015.

Jochamowitz Rivera Arquitectos has designed and built eight projects between 2015 and 2017. The architecture office is concerned with design and research projects involving domestic and landscape architecture. One of the studio’s main projects is the research, design and landscape planning for the marine Natural Protected Area Punta San Juan, in the southern coast of Peru. For this project, the office formed multidisciplinary work teams as it involved not only architecture design but ecosystem conservation strategies, sustainable tourism projects, fundraising and public consultation with the local communities. As part of this large-scale ongoing project, a Seacoast Observatory was built in 2015. This building earned Jochamowitz Rivera Arquitectos a nomination for the Mies Crown Hall Architecture Prize 2014/2015 in the category Emerging Architecture given to architects »that harness the talent and ambition needed to devise and bring forth a truly outstanding first built work«. This work has been published in the architecture journal Arkinka in 2016.
