Marco Pando is an artist, filmmaker and researcher who lives and works between Amsterdam/Netherlands, Berlin/Germany and Lima/Peru.
He holds a BA in fine arts from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Between 2005 and 2006 he attended the prestigious Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and has since been selected as artist in residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2018) as well as at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris/France (2021).
Marco Pando has won several art awards, including First Prize in the National Painting Contest (2019), organized by the Museum of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP Museum).
His films and videos have been featured at various international festivals, such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Netherlands; the Biennale of Moving Images in Buenos Aires/Argentina; and Rencontres Internationales in Berlin and Madrid, among others.
Additionally, his videos are part of the collection of the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam and several of his film projects have been produced by the Mondriaan Fund.
Pando’s work explores poetic narratives that traverse geographical and historical boundaries. Having lived between Europe and South America, he navigates the cultural differences between these regions, experiencing himself as a bridge between European culture and his Latin American roots. He regards himself as an explorer, discovering his own peripheries in Europe, and collecting insights into cultural identities as he moves between different places, highlighting their similarities in varied contexts.
During his residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Pando will focus on reseaching the appropriation and trafficking of invasive and exotic plants during and after the European colonial period.
