Born 1970 in Kiev/Ukraine.
From 1990 until 1996 Maksym Kurochkin studied extern in the History Department of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv University, followed by studies at the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow Department of drama between 1995 and 1999. From 1990 until 1993 he worked at the Institute of Archaeology at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
His work includes the plays Vodka. Fucking. TV, directed by Georg Genoux, Theatre of Displaced People, Kiev (2017); Titus The Irreproachable, directed by Vladimir Mirzoev, the Moscow State Academic Chamber Musical Theatre (2015); Switch, directed by Dmitry Brusnikin, Teatr.doc. (2014); Dulcey and Roxy at City Hall, directed by Graham Schmidt, The Breaking String Theater (2014); The Schooling of Bento Bonchev, directed by Mikhail Ugarov, Center of Drama and Directing Moscow (2010); Steel Will, directed by Dmytro Bogomazov, Kyiv Academic Young Theater (2001); Kitchen, directed by Oleg Menshikov, 814 Theatrical Association, Moscow (2000).
In 1998 the play Steel Will received the Anti-Booker award for experimenting with new avenues in drama. The play Titius the Irreproachable won the Grand Prix of the VII New Drama Festival in Bratislava/Slovakia in 2008.
In 2003 Maksym Kurochkin took part in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, IA/USA.
Maksym Kurochkin is a fellow in cooperation with Staatstheater Stuttgart.
