Leon Filter lives and works as an artist and author in Berlin/Germany. From 2008 to 2014 he studied film/video as well as the master program Konzepte des Autors – Reflexe des Publikums at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany and visual art at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart.
His work – tree bending, father research, remote sensing, model building – visualizes in different states of aggregation using video, painting, performance and text. Thereby, it is oriented towards the questions of documentary and explores the subjective accesses and connections to visual forms. It focuses on the specific processes in which pictures give access to what they have visualized.
Leon Filter was a founding member of Projektraum LOTTE in Stuttgart. As a member of Punch&Judy; he was supported by the Innovationsring Baden-Württemberg and was awarded with the Jury Award of the Open Mind Festival. He received grants from, amongst others, Stiftung Kunstfonds and the Deutschlandstipendium. Group exhibitions and screenings at, amongst others, Bernhard Knaus Fine Art, Frankfurt/Germany; Theater Rampe, Stuttgart; Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart; Alte Feuerwache Mannheim, Germany as well as Duisburger Filmwoche. His artist’s book Biegen was published in 2014 by August Verlag Berlin.
Leon Filter is a fellow in cooperation with MFG Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg.
