Born 1981 in Ontario/Canada.
Jol Thomson works as a freelance artist, writer, and sound designer in Berlin/Germany. He received his bachelor’s degrees in philosophy, art history, and visual studies from the University of Toronto, Canada and received a Meisterschüler from Prof. Simon Starling at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main/Germany in 2013.
From 2014 to 2016 he co-developed and taught an experimental art foundation for 1st year undergraduate architects at the Institut für Architekturbezogene Kunst, TU Braunschweig, Germany alongside geographer Dr. Sasha Engelmann; poet Dr. Alan Prohm; PhD candidate and architect Natalija Miodragovic; and provisional director, artist-architect Tomás Saraceno.
In 2016 he received the MERU Art*Science Video Award, GAMeC (Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, la Fondazione MERU and Associazione BergamoScienza) Italy for his work G24|0vßß.
