Born 1988 in Trier/Germany.
Jan Esra Kuhl studies composition with Johannes Schöllhorn at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Germany. Before, he studied composition with Jörg Widmann und Brice Pauset at Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, Germany, where he partook in additional studies of music theory and church music.
He received numerous composition appointments such as for ensemble recherche (2015), Oslo Quartet Series (2014), Kammermusik Festival Hohenstaufen (2011) and Anton-Webern-Chor Freiburg (2011). As an organist, he participates in various concerts that took him to the International Organ Festival Haarlem, Netherlands in 2012 or to the Transilvania International Film Festival in Cluj-Napoca/Romania in 2014. Since 2013 he has been giving classes and workshops in experimental music play and organ improvisation at Hochschule für Musik Freiburg.
In 2015 he is a fellow in cooperation with the Ensemble Gesellschaft.
