Jakub Szczesny

Born in 1973 in Warsaw/ Poland.

Jakub Szczesny studied architecture in Paris/France at the Ecole d’Architecture Paris-la Defense, and in Barcelona/Spain at Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura. He graduated at the faculty of architecture of the Warsaw Institute of Technology.

Jakub Szczesny is the co-founder of Centrala Designer’s Task Force, an interdisciplinary group of designers, with whom he has received various prizes and has been constructing buildings, such as:

Bierun Sporthall, Temporary Pavilion of the Museum of Polish Jews, Instituto Cervantes in Warsaw and Stacja Powisle revitalization. Since 2008, he has been starting parallel solo and group projects in Poland, Israel, the Palestinian Autonomy and Norway. In 2009, he has become an expert of the City of Warsaw Bureau of Culture, participating in the application for the title of the Capital of Europe in 2016 and working on the program of the development of cultural infrastructure of the Polish capital until the year 2020.

His latest projects are mainly permanent public space interventions which are oriented towards enhancing environmental conciousness and addressing local social tensions, such as the Public Water Purification Island and Synchronicity in Warsaw/Poland, the Tamaguchi Park in BatYam, the Polish Spring in Birzeit, Pchechong in Tel Aviv (all Israel) and The Lace in Ramallah/Palestinian Autonomy.

Jakub Szczesny is a participant of the exchange program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.
