Helene Sommer is a visual artist based in Oslo, working predominantly with video, text, collage and installation.
She is a fellow in the framework of the new residency program »Field Trip« – a new transdisciplinary residency program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior.
Sommer graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo in 2003 and has since then exhibited in numerous institutions, museums, galleries and festivals, such as K.O.SA (Oslo), Kabuso Art Center (Norway), Kristiansand Kunsthall (Norway), Fotogalleriet (Norway), ORTVI (online), Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter (Norway), Atelier Nord (Oslo), Fotografisk Center (Denmark), Kunstnernes Hus (Norway), Oslo Kunstforening (Norway), National Library (Oslo), Stenersenmuseet (Oslo), Vigelandsmuseet (Oslo), International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (Germany), Grazer Kunstverein (Austria), De Appel (Netherlands), Neue Berliner Kunstverein (Germany).
She has received several grants throughout the years and is represented in the art collection of The National Museum in Oslo, amongst others. Summer has been a resident of Platform Garanti (Istanbul/Turkey), IASPIS (Stockholm/Sweden), Interspace (Bulgaria) and Nordic Artist’s Center Dale (Norway).
From October 2007 to March 2008 Helene Sommer was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude within the Field of Practice »Video / Film / New Media«.
