Born 1978 in Brittany/France.
Gwen Rouger received her master’s degree in contemporary music performance with distinction from the Royal College of Music, London/Great Britain in 2014. She conceives the concert as a moment of experimentation, as much for the audience as for the performer, a time and space in which questions are expressed by engaging the senses.
This explorative approach provides the creative impetus for the development of her performances, which bring together notated contemporary composition, improvisation, live electronics, and installation. Gwen Rouger is particularly interested in the relationship between visuality and music and the role the performer plays in interpretation. She is collaborating with artists working in the fields of video, theater and dance.
On the international stage she has performed as a soloist or as a chamber musician at 104, Paris/France, Cadogan Hall and Cafe Oto, London, Centralstation Darmstadt, Germany, BOZAR, Brussels/Belgium, Ulumbarra Theater and BIFEM Festival, Bendigo/Australia, Cremorne Theater, Brisbane/Australia, and Lee Foundation Theater and NAFA, Singapore. She has been invited to perform with Plus-minus ensemble (UK) and Ictus ensemble (BE). She is pianist and co-director of soundinitiative new music ensemble based in Paris.
In 2015/2016, Gwen Rouger is artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris.
