Born in 1980 in Ljubljana/Slovenia.
Gal Kirn studied political theory at the Faculty of Social Sciences der University of Ljubljana/Slovenia and political philosophy at the University of Nova Gorica, where he gained his Ph.D. in 2012 with a thesis on Conceptualisation of politics and reproduction in the work of Louis Althusser: case of socialist Yugoslavia. From 2008 to 2010 he worked as a researcher at the Theory Department der Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht/Netherlands and from 2010 to 2011 he was a research fellow at Kulturlabor (Institute of Cultural Inquiry) in Berlin/Germany, considering modernistic socialist memorials.
He is co-editor of Encountering Althusser, Bloomsbury (2013) and Yugoslav Black Wave Cinema and Its Transgressive Moments, Jan van Eyck Academie (2012), as well as editor of Postfordism and its discontents, Jan van Eyck Academie (2010). Currently, he is based in Berlin and organizes the Re-Orient collective, as well as one part of the film festival GoEast! in Wiesbaden. In his hometown Ljubljana he is part oft he project Delavsko-punkerska univerza (Worker’s Punk University) and writes articles for the Slovenian weekly journal Objektiv.
