G. Douglas Barrett is an artist and writer/theorist working with time-based media and performance. His artistic projects combine techniques from visual art and music to investigate issues related to identity, temporality, property, and exchange. He received his bachelor’s degree in music from the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA/USA in 2004 and his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA/USA in 2006. Following, he pursued his doctoral studies at the State University of New York College in Buffalo, NY/USA where he received his PhD in 2010.

His most recent projects include Two Transcription/Ode to Schoenberg (2013), a vinyl record exploring authorship, transgender, and performance, and After Sound: Toward a Critical Music, a book-length study of contemporary visual artists, sound artists, and musicians such as Pussy Riot, Ultra-red, and Peter Ablinger, which will be published by Bloomsbury Press in 2016. His writing has been published in journals such as Postmodern Culture, Contemporary Music Review, and Mosaic.

G. Douglas Barrett has received several grants, such as the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art in 2013 or the DAAD research grant in Berlin/Germany in 2009.
