Born 1975 in Kudus/Indonesia.
Dyatmiko Lancur Bawono lives and works in Yogyakarta/Indonesia. He studied interior design at Indonesian Institute of Art Yogyakarta (ISI Yogyakarta) and earned his BA in 1999. In 1999, Dyatmiko Lancur Bawono and his wife Santi Ariestyowanti founded indieguerillas as a graphic design firm. indieguerillas’s philosophy of »constantly in guerrilla to find new possibilities« has led them to become full-time artists in 2007. Nevertheless, design still plays a very important role as it allows them to explore the use of unconventional media and techniques as part of their artistic process.
In addition to their proficiency at visual effects and inter-media experimentation, indieguerillas’ works are also recognized for their folklore influences. Through their multidisciplinary works, they talk about their reality as the Javanese persons who live amidst a wave of global consumerism demanding everything to be instantaneous. Their art making process is an auto-criticism ritual and a method of self-reflection. This unique intertwine between traditional values and contemporary culture has brought indieguerillas to numerous important exhibitions around the globe, most recently Datang Untuk Kembali, a performance made in collaboration with fashion designer Lulu Lutfi Labibi and sound director Ari Wulu, as a part of CITIES FOR PEOPLE NTU CCA Ideas Fest 2016/2017 at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, 2017.
