Born 1972 in Rodewisch/Germany.
Dirk Pilz, laureate of the Marie-Zimmermann-Preis für Theaterkritik 2012, studied literature, philosophy and psychology in Potsdam/Germany, Berlin/Germany and Copenhagen/Denmark. He received his PhD at the university of Potsdam in 2005 for a thesis on the theory of aesthetics. Afterwards he worked as a critic for theater and nonfiction mainly for the Berliner Zeitung and Neue Zürcher Zeitung. From 2003 until 2007 he was editor for the journal Theater der Zeit and since 2011 he has been the editor of DuMont-Redaktionsgemeinschaft in the feuilleton of the Berliner Zeitung/Frankfurter Rundschau. Dirk Pilz is one of the founding members, shareholders and editors of nachtkritik. He has lectureships at various universities, amongst others the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the university of Leipzig/Germany and Freie Universität Berlin.
