Organized for the German minority, the German Theater Almaty developed into a place of identification for Russian-Germans. After the collapse of the Soviet Union most of the audience and actors emigrated. The current young cast has been working together since 1994. Guest performances in Germany (Staatstheater Stuttgart, Gasteig Munich, Akademy Theater Ulm, Theater am Ufer Berlin, among others), Holland and Switzerland in the spring of 1999.
