Cristina Vidrutiu

Born 1984 in Cluj-Napoca/Romania.

Cristina Vidruțiu is a researcher interested in the relation between illness and narrative from a multidisciplinary point of view. Currently, she is a librarian and is organizing therapeutic creative writing workshops for adults and storytelling workshops for children. She has received a PhD in philology, in 2012, with a thesis entitled »Epidemic imaginary. Historical and metaphorical representations of plague in literature«. She also has a Master’s degree in History of Images – History of Ideas (2008) and a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative literature (2007).

Cristina Vidruțiu published her PhD thesis in Romania, after winning the Writers’ Union of Romania (Cluj) competition for debutant authors. She also wrote several articles, »Plague spreaders: the poison between the miasmatic theory and the contagionist theory. A study of a literary case«, »Pharmakon (poison and remedy) and Pseudo-Pharmakos (false scapegoat) in The Decameron« and »The disease imagery and the healing narratives: between literature and pathography. Max Blecher’s case« for international anthologies and published several reviews, short stories and some poetry. Her art installation, Periodic table of memories. Folded stories was shown in the collective exhibition Spazi Aperti. Borderless in Rome/Italy in 2013.

Cristina Vidruțiu was fellow of the Dino Buzzati International Association (2015), the National Museum of Romanian Literature (2015) and the Romanian Academy in Rome (2012-2014).
