Christopher Trapani

Born in New Orleans, LA/USA.

Christopher Trapani is a New York, NY/USA based composer. He earned a a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard, then spent most of his twenties overseas: a year in London, working on a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Music with Julian Anderson; a year in Istanbul, studying microtonality in Ottoman music on a Fulbright grant; and seven years in Paris, where he studied with Philippe Leroux and worked at IRCAM. Christopher is currently based in New York City.

Christopher is the winner of the 2007 Gaudeamus Prize, the 2013 Julius F. Ježek Prize, and awards from ASCAP, BMI, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His scores have been performed by ICTUS, Nieuw Ensemble, Talea Ensemble, L’Itinéraire, and the JACK Quartet, amongst others. In March 2011, he was featured in a portrait concert on the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Music of Today series at the Royal Festival Hall in London. His music has also been programmed in international festivals such as the Venice Biennale, Ultraschall Festival in Berlin/Germany, Musica Nova Helsinki/Finland, Tectonics Glasgow, and IRCAM’s festival Agora.

Current projects include a new string quartet with electronics for Quatuor Béla and GRAME (Lyon), an orchestral piece for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a guitar duo for Oh Mensch, and a new work for Ensemble Modern for the cresc… Biennale in November 2015.
