Christina Maria Pfeifer

Born in Germany.

Christina Maria Pfeifer works as visual artist, performer, and thinker. The focus of her artistic practice is the posthuman in the context of digitalization. Her approach is conceptual. She varies her use of media: drawing, installation, video, performance, and live-stream; amongst others. Her attitude at work is not to dominate neither tools nor materials or the issue, she instead considers all things involved as independent actors. Regular collaborations are part of her practice; she worked with other visual artists, experimental musicians, scientists of the humanities and a cook, so far.

In 2014, she created the artificial character Cy_born, an extra-terrestrial entity from outer space. It is identified by an Alien-head with a mobile visor, which she claims a performance-ware. In the beginning she performed an extra-terrestrial occurrence in live acts at private and public places. Later the concept shifted towards the video-performance of a Cy_born video, presented by the performance group POeZ which she co-founded. Recently her practice of Cy_born focuses on the performance-ware only, as an act of alienation where she functions as the Cy_born enabler of the audience.

In 2017, she outlined her own view on a digital ecology of human and non-human peoples called WIR 11.0. She therefore developed a bubble geometry and her own set of pictograms under the condition to be decoded by humans as well as by an algorithm.

Her work was presented in institutions like Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin/Germany, Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea, Rome/Italy, Underdox/Videodox Festival, Munich/Germany. She attended at solo and group exhibitions in galleries such as Hybrida Contemporanea, Rome, Karin Wimmer contemporary art, Munich, La Générale en Manufacture, Sèvres/France. She talked about her work at University of Art, Berlin, Kunstraum München, Munich, Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart/Germany.

Christina Maria Pfeifer studied political economy, romance literature, drawing with Andrea Fogli, new media with Klaus vom Bruch, performance art with Jill Greenhalgh and Akuzuru. Before she focused on her artistic practice in 2007, she taught as research assistant at university, received a doctoral degree in economics/sociology, and provided software-based think shops in politics and industry in Europe, in the USA, in South Africa and Singapore. She looks back on a childhood with seventeen years of classical ballet and performance which broke up in a serious car accident at the age of twenty-two. From that on, she continuously creates physical and mental exercises for her daily practice. Recently, she started with Butoh dance.

Christina Maria Pfeifer is a fellow in the framework of the »WimmelResearch-Fellowship«, a joint project between Robert Bosch GmbH, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and Wimmelforschung.
