Born 1978 in Rosenheim.
From 1998-2004 he studied composition with Wilfried Hiller at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium in Munich.
His work is a mixture of classical compositions, film music and sound installations; including film music to Christoph Hochhäusler’s films “Milchwald”, 2002 and “Falscher Bekenner”, 2005 as well as Volker Schlöndorffs television film “Enigma”, 2005; a commission for a permanent sound-image installation in the building of the Suisse Re/Bayerische Rückversicherung and in 2004 the sound installation “mnemo” at the offspace marks blond in Bern/Switzerland.
In 2000 he was commissioned to write the composition “KOSMOS•” opus 1 for the exhibition opening “Unterwegs” at the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste. “funambule” for four hands was performed for the first time at the Festival ADevantgarde in Munich in 2005. His two pocket operas “Hände an der Schreibmaschine” and “Der Preußenhimmel” were realized for the 20th anniversary of the Gasteig, Munich in 2005.
He plans to tackle with the world of theatre and opera. In 2000 he received a Richard Strauss Fellowship from the city of Munich, 2001 an invitation to the Festival junger Künstler Bayreuth, as well as to Cité International des Arts, Paris in 2002.
Since October 2006 Benedikt Schiefer has been in Basel to study with Georg Friedrich Haas and Erik Ona and to work in the electronical studio. In November 2006 his short-opera “Lamento” was premiered at the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt.
