The artist group bankleer was founded by Karin Kasböck and Christoph Leitner in 1998. By using contextual artistic interventions the group tried to sensitize as well as mobilize a wide forum of the increasing influences of economical processes on life in society. For this purpose a number of short videos, installations and events were designed and exhibited in places like Shedhalle (Zurich), NGBK (Berlin), Künstlerwerkstatt Lothringer Straße (Munich) and Kunsthalle (Hamburg) since the year 2000.
Karin Kasböck (born 1969) studied art education, art history and psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilian- University of Munich with Professor Hans Daucher. She is working as a video artist and journalist and as a free-lance curator since 1999. Since summer 2003 lecturer at the Academy of Arts and Freien Universität in Berlin.
Christoph Leitner (born 1968) studied painting in the class of Helmut Sturm at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. After a number of stays abroad (e.g. New York, Calcutta, Kerala/India, Bangladesh) he now lives and works as an artist in Berlin, focusing on media and installations.
