Ali Mirmohammadi is an Iranian contemporary dancer and choreographer based in Paris/France. In 2011, he earned his bachelor’s degree in drama from Tehran University of Art, laying the academic foundation for his artistic pursuits.
Throughout his journey, Mirmohammadi has engaged in significant collaborations with a range of Iranian artists. These include immersive and interactive performances with Mehdi Farajpour, artistic director of the Paris-based Oriaan Theatre dance company, as well as a pivotal role in Atefeh Tehrani’s physical theatre project Read, among other formative projects.
In 2016, he ventured into the world of dance film with Nature Exploration. That same year, he facilitated a meeting between IETM members and the Iranian performing arts community, which led to the founding of IPAC (Iranian Performing Arts Community) in 2017. IPAC includes more than 350 members across the field. Over the course of a year, Mirmohammadi organized eleven dance workshops to support the growth of this community.
He has also contributed to narrative cinema, serving as the director’s advisor on the short films Stain and The Home Which I Loved, both directed by Maryam Ghiasi and selected by renowned international film festivals.
From 2017 to 2019, he was a prominent performer with Jan Martens’ renowned GRIP dance company in Ghent/Belgium. During this period, he collaborated with Icelandic choreographer Bara Sigfusdottir as one of the principal dancers in her piece being, which toured extensively across Iran, Belgium, Turkey, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Iceland.
His solo project Lullaby explores the theme of mourning and its embodied expression through movement. Developed during residencies at Workspace Brussels, PACT Zollverein, and the Camargo Foundation, the piece is co-produced by Charleroi Danse and was set to premiere in Belgium in March 2024.
In 2023, Mirmohammadi began to work on his current project Mangle, created in collaboration with his long-time partner and collaborator Maryam Ghiasi. The piece has been developed through international residencies, beginning at the Camargo Foundation and continuing at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, with further rehearsals at PACT Zollverein, Le CND, and Montpellier Danse. In April 2024, Mangle was selected for the prestigious Chaillot Fabrique residency at Théâtre National de la Danse.
