Exhibition by Bureau Baubotanik at the architekturgalerie am weißenhof e.V. through October 8, 2023

HABITAT X shows ways to transcend planning and building processes dedicated exclusively to human needs: The Stuttgart-based architect duo Bureau Baubotanik, consisting of former Solitude fellows Oliver Storz and Hannes Schwertfeger, illustrates strategies that enable plants, animals and humans to live and grow together with two guest contributions from the Berlin studio Animal-Aided Design and Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners BV from Rotterdam.

The exhibition addresses the coexistence of plants, animals and humans in relation to our built environment: How can construction address the long-term changes in the life cycles of buildings and open spaces? What modifications to the cultural practice of planning are required in order to do justice to the living environments of plants and animals? And what role do local conditions and different temporal horizons play? The works demonstrate ways in which interdisciplinary research and practice can provide foundations, methodologies and planning tools for the successful integration of biodiversity within the planning and design of urban spaces.
