Goutam Ghosh at Galerie Tanya Leighton, Berlin
Goutam Ghosh, Waai, 2020
»After walking a few kilometres in the salted barren land, the midday sky began to reflect on the ground and ground reflected it back to the sky again. This exchange went on again and again until the line in the horizon disappeared.«
Together with Goutam Ghosh, the Akademie Schloss Solitude is happy about his first solo exhibition in Berlin/Germany at Tanya Leighton Gallery. In his paintings, sculptures and films, Ghosh synthesizes ways in which humanity understands the world – through geology, measurement, and magic. The poetics of his approach don’t seek to answer these questions, so much as provide a space for further reflection.
Ghosh lives and works between West Bengal and Bhuj/India. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Kunsthaus Hamburg/Germany; Standard Oslo/Norway; and Project 88, Mumbai/India. His work has been included in notable two-person and group exhibitions at Kunstverein Freiburg/Germany; David Zwirner Gallery, London/UK; Centre Pompidou, Paris/France; The Drawing Room, London; and Renaissance Society, Chicago/USA.
Ghosh was a visual arts fellow from November 2019 to July 2020.
