Ashley Fure (fellow 2011) receives 64th Komponistenpreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart 2019

For her work »Bound to the Bow« (2016) Ashley Fure (fellow 2011, music/sound) will be awarded the 64th Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart 2019. The prize is Germany’s oldest and most important prize for composers of new music and has been awarded annually since 1955. A total of 17 female and 54 male composers submitted 124 works.

The compositions will be performed at the prizewinner’s concert at the Festival Neue Musik Stuttgart ECLAT 2020 (February 5–9, 2020). As part of this event, the Mayor for General Administration, Culture and Law, Dr. Fabian Mayer, will hand over the award certificate on February 8, 2020 at 8.30 pm at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. The prize will be awarded to Ashley Fure and the other first place winner Andreas Eduardo Frank.

Ashley Fure, born 1982, is an American composer and sound artist. She holds a PhD in Music Composition from Harvard University and joined the Dartmouth College Music Department as Assistant Professor in 2015. She was a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Music. In 2017, Fure received the Rome Prize in Music Composition and the Guggenheim Fellowship. She has written commissioned works for major ensembles in Europe and the USA, including the New York Philharmonic; Los Angeles Philharmonic; Klangforum Wien; Ensemble Modern; the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players.
