art quarter budapest in Hungary
The art quarter budapest – aqb – is an independent institution and center for contemporary art housed in the buildings of the former Haggenmacher Brewery in Budapest. The building complex is used by numerous visual artists and creative industry companies. Since 2013, the aqb has been running an international artist-in-residence program which has been attended by over 90 artists from all over the world to date. For the duration of their stay, the participants are provided with guest flats and studios, project support and exhibition opportunities.
The aqb is home to an experimental music studio, the Spatial Sound Institute, which maintains its own artist-in-residence program. The aqb’s Project Space is a separate, spacious exhibition area in which six to eight solo and group exhibitions are shown annually.
The center also hosts regular events and workshops in the fields of music, film, performance and dance, including the biannual aqb Open House Festival.
Great importance is attached to the function of the aqb as a meeting place, which offers local, in-house and international artists the opportunity for exchange and stimulation.
