On Sunday, 05 June, at 20:00 in the Akademie Schloss Solitude’s Guibal-Saal, the prëeminent Freiburg-based Ensemble SurPlus will be presenting a portrait-concert of solo, duo, and chamber ensemble pieces by American composer and former Solitude fellow Alexander Sigman. Derived from the composer’s large-scale Nominal/Noumenal, two interlocking cycles of ten pieces completed during his Solitude residency in 2009, this will mark the first occasion on which these pieces will have been performed on a single programme. In addition, several of the works will be experiencing their European premieres. The programme will also include detritus II, for video and electronics, among other electroacoustic compositions.
Subsequent to the concert, a recording of the SurPlus performances will be produced at Solitude and incorporated onto a CD, to be commercially released by the New York-based label Carrier Records in 2012. The CD will also feature Sigman’s ensemble, countertenor, and electronics piece detritus I, performed by Daniel Gloger and Ensemble Ascolta at the Akademie in May 2009.
