We tend to think of buildings, especially historical landmarks, as unchangeable structures frozen in time. But what if we could change their outer appearance with the click of a button, or the wave of a hand? If we could make them flow like a fountain, turn into crystal, or flicker like a flame? During a special night at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, all this will become possible with the help of a few projectors, computers and sensors, breathing life into the central circular facade of the middle building of Schloss Solitude.
On the 10th of December 2016 between 6 pm and 9 pm after nightfall, the digital artist Zsolt Korai and his partner Mátyás Dunajcsik (a Solitude fellow) will give a 3D video projection performance where abstract animations based on the architectural structure of the building will alter and subvert the original features of the Rococo facade. During the time of the performance street lights and reflectors on and around the castle will be shut down as much as possible, so that visitors can wholeheartedly concentrate on the spectacle.
In the first part of the performance, a preprogrammed sequence of animations will be shown for around 5-10 minutes, prepared by Zsolt Korai. After that, the visitors can take matters in their own hands, and control various effects on the castle facade by tracking their hand movement with sensors at a designated area in the middle of the courtyard.
On December 16 and 17, 2016 at 7 pm the projection can be seen once again.
