How does it feel to be perceived as a »threat« on a daily basis? What does it mean to defend yourself on behalf of the whole home country or the parents’ religious confession every time there is a crisis? How does racism affect sexuality?
This book is a manifesto against home – a nationally romanticized concept. 14 German-speaking writers are making a stand against its normalization, among them Margarete Stokowski, Sasha Marianna Salzmann, and Sharon Dodua. In their personal essays, they give an insight into their everyday lives and hold up the mirror to Germany: a country that perceives itself as a model democracy and at the same time marks a part of its members as being »different«, protects or appreciates them not enough.
In Stuttgart, publisher and writer Fatma Aydemir, who was repeatedly honored for her debut novel »Ellbogen« (Elbow) and writer, curator, and columnist Deniz Utlu, who’s currently a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude, will be guests at Literaturhaus.
The talk is moderated by Elke aus dem Moore, director of Akademie Schloss Solitude.
