On December 7, 2022, Elke aus dem Moore will be speaking at the GEDOK Gallery in Stuttgart about the particular importance of international artists’ residencies, especially in times of global and radical change.
International artists’ residencies have a very special significance; they represent new spaces and models for the development of knowledge relevant to both art and society. But how does this knowledge – the result of artistic research – find its way into processes of social change?
Akademie Schloss Solitude is an incubator for contemporary themes, a guarantor of internationality and an important reservoir of knowledge – because art has the potential to think to the future, beyond mere economic exploitation, providing the impetus for processes of social transformation.
In times of global and radical change, the concept of »home away from home« now assumes a new urgency: Artist-in-residence programs are becoming increasingly important in building much needed shelters – safe spaces of freedom, refuge and retreat. They enable long-term and sustainable exchange across political and linguistic boundaries.
