Kai Linke
By Hands

The product designer Kai Linke from Frankfurt deals with different natural materials and their surfaces. He explores their diversity by an experimental approach. The materiality of the products is familiar to us, but they are disappearing more and more from our environment and as a consequence the handcraft too disappears from our proximity.
Here Kai Linke turns his attention on traditional low-tech production methods as well as on a close collaboration with craftsmen. In cooperation with a pottery and an art foundry objects were created, whose identity reflects the exploration of materials and surfaces.

Ivana Ivković
The Whale Graveyard – A Performance Series

The Whale Graveyard is a fictionalized travelogue in actions and words unfolding over days and weeks in the setting of the ABR-library of Akademie Schloss Solitude. Using their own preoccupations, archives and memories of journeys, but also through encounters with the public, Ivana Ivković and Dragana Bulut create a serial performance that ventures into constellations and archipelagos, empty notebooks and landscapes of spilt oil.
Ivana Ivković was a fellow for performing arts at Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2015. In January 2016 Ivana Ivković was a fellow of Station Service for Contemporary Dance in Belgrade in the framework of the exchange program with Akademie Schloss Solitude.

The ABR-library on the second floor of the Akademie will be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 2–4 pm during the exhibition period.

Retour de Paris

The Akademie Schloss Solitude is also contributing to the anniversary of the exhibition series Retour de Paris, which was initiated by the Institut Français in Stuttgart in 1986. The exhibition shows the works of one of the first artists of this series, Rolf Schneider and one of the youngest fellows from Baden Württemberg at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, Laura Bernhardt. In 30 years not only the practice of art has changed, but also the selection, the handling of time of a fellowship and the results are significantly different. The exhibition displays the encounter of both the two artists.

(no)action(no)space

The research and working platform, (no)action(no)space investigates collective spaces of action and the structures that support and inhabit them. The development of a shared space of action is now made public as an exhibition; which kind of infrastructures have emerged and how do they in turn shape the individual contributions and positions of its participants?
The participating artists inter-act with their tools, potentialities and limitations. Their co-created spaces can be analog, virtual, mental or fictional, and will be translated and recomposed in a digital publication.

In cooperation with EXP.edition (Stuttgart).

Rolf Schneider
Le secret doux

After a six-month fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts, the artist Rolf Schneider (1948–2006) from Heidelberg/Germany exhibited some of his works in 1986 at the Institut Français de Stuttgart. Le secret doux, the sweet secret, is the name of a sculpture by Rolf Schneider, which was depicted on the first poster of the exhibition series Retour de Paris. Unfortunately, this sculpture is lost and the drawings and collages on view in this exhibition are not able to reveal the secret. However, they draw a parallel between the plastic and linguistic forms of expression and discuss the basic ideas of sculpturing in a poetic way.

Special thanks to Klaus Staeck and Rolf Staeck for the loan of Rolf Schneider’s works.

The exhibitions in the frame of Retour de Paris are realized with the friendly support of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, Baden-Württemberg.
