Ole Aselmann »Berlin – Beijing«
Kristina Estell »Treatment«
Lan Tuazon »Ingredients of Reality«
On Thursday, February 3rd, 8 pm, the Akademie opens the first three exhibitions in 2011, offering a trip through three very different worlds.
OLE ASELMANN’S current project is a journey that leads him in several stages from Berlin to Beijing (Peking). His goal is to carry the complete Western culture to Asia in order to hybridize it and to create a »Hybrid-Kathedral-Kultur« (hybrid cathedral culture), the »Europäische-Wellnessimperium« (European-Spa Empire). On display are objects, paintings, travel reports, and videos which are supposed to explore and examine the aural qualities and opportunities of contemporary art and which are characterized by uniqueness, authenticity and form.
Through a series of sculptures and installations KRISTINA ESTELL investigates the ambivalent side effects of artistic processing techniques. She uses a variety of natural materials and by employing the specific physical quality of the selected objects, she draws the spectator’s attention to the relationship between the artistic process and the consequences of the treatment. Her work motivates the viewer to reflect on the ambiguity of beauty and the uncertain outcome of a project.
In her first solo exhibition in Germany, LAN TUAZON presents apparently surrealistic works by rearranging existing components of our familiar environment, such as buildings, monuments and street furniture. She creates a new whole, which appears to be familiar and alienated at the same time. For Tuazon, public spaces are the materialized existence of democracy and its simple reorganization creates space for the notion of the impossible.
