In his performance »The Romanian Trick« the Bulgarian artist Ivan Moudov splits 1 and 2 Euro coins into their corresponding parts. The trick is being revealed to anyone prepared to pay for the privilege at a negotiable rate, who in turn can ‘re-sell’ the trick to someone else.
The artist has been performing the »Romanian Trick« in order to make money used for the purchase of artworks and the creation of his own art collection.
»The Romanian Trick« will be performed during the exhibition opening on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 8 pm at Akademie Schloss Solitude.
Ivan Moudov (*1975 in Sofia/Bulgaria) studied at the department of mural painting at the National Academy of Arts Sofia (MA 2002). Since 1998 he has displayed his work at numerous solo and group exhibitions and art festivals throughout Europe. With his often provocative installations, videos and photographs Moudov wants to show art, »which has the power to penetrate and influence the overwhelming social and cultural practices of television, advertising and communication technologies.« He took part at the Biennale in Venice in 2007. Ivan Moudov is a participant in the exchange program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and Inter Space Media Art Center, Sofia.
