On this Sunday in July, the visitor is greeted with a summery kaleidoscope of new music, spaced out throughout the afternoon. The music fellows will present new works, composed especially for the World New Music Festival and performed by the Ascolta ensemble on the trumpet, trombone, violoncello, drums, guitar and piano. In this extremely heterogeneous group of composers, the conceptual encounters performance, and “traditional” new music concert procedure merges with computers and acoustic art. Works by Francesco Filidei (*1973), Noriko Baba (*1972), Andrew Hamilton (*1977), Jennifer Walshe (*1974), Benedikt Schiefer (*1978) and Cobi van Tonder (*1974) are performed in three concerts.
The Stuttgart ensemble Ascolta emanated from the Varianti ensemble, founded under the patronage of Musik der Jahrhunderte, which has been performing contemporary music in variable ensemble and chamber music formations both at home and abroad since 1994. The ensemble has appeared at virtually all European New Music festivals, including début performances by Peter Eötvös, Brian Ferneyhough, Dieter Schnebel, Matthias Pintscher, Michael Jarrell, Salvatore Sciarrino and Marco Stroppa. The Ascolta ensemble last appeared at the Akademie in 2003.
