Ivan Ballesteros (*1974 in Madrid/Spain) studied at the ETSA, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University (diploma 2002) and from 2004 to 2006 at the Design Research Laboratory of the Architectural Association in London (MArch). In 2006, together with Alena Garcia, he founded »ANTIFABRIC«, a multidisciplinary lab for architecture, design and landscape. Ballesteros’s work has been given numerous awards and has been shown in various exhibitions. In late October 2008 he will show works in the international exhibition »(Im)material Processes: New Digital Techniques for Architecture« in Beijing. Ballesteros is a Solitude fellow in 2008.
Gwen van den Eijnde (*1981 in Zierikzee/Netherlands) studied in the visual arts and textile departments of the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg from 2000 until 2005 after having completed one year of study in animated cinema. Currently, van den Eijnde works as an artist and costume designer. He designed costumes for »The History of Communism Told to the Mentally Ill,« Bucharest National Theater (2006), for »Les enfants de l’ilôt« (2006), and »Ziad, Plume et le mur« (2008). In 2006 van den Eijnde was awarded a fellowship for the Water Mill Summer Program, Robert Wilson’s Academy for Arts, New York. In 2007 van den Eijnde worked as a costume assistant on Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s circus opera »Monkey Journey to the West« at the Manchester International Festival. He also worked for costume designer Olivier Beriot, as well as for several costume ateliers in Paris. Gwen van den Eijnde is a Solitude fellow in 2008.
Matthias Megyeri (*1973 in Stuttgart) studied product design at the Royal College of Art in London and visual communication at the Academy for Design at the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Germany. During his studies, Megyeri focused on the design of political posters. In 2003 he founded Sweet Dreams Security™, a commercial brand, that is both a business and a research project for security products with non-threatening designs. Megyeri currently works as an artist and designer in East London. He is a Solitude fellow in 2007/2009.
Ivan Moudov (*1975 in Sofia/Bulgaria) studied at the department of mural painting at the National Academy of Arts Sofia (MA 2002). Since 1998 he has displayed his work at numerous solo and group exhibitions and art festivals throughout Europe. With his often provocative installations, videos and photographs Moudov wants to show art, »which has the power to penetrate and influence the overwhelming social and cultural practices of television, advertising and communication technologies.« He took part at the Biennale in Venice in 2007. Ivan Moudov is a participant in the exchange program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and Inter Space Media Art Center, Sofia.
Ina Steiner (*1972 in Nuremberg) has moved back to Berlin in 2008 after having lived and worked in Los Angeles for more than six years. After a degree in visual communication from the Universität der Künste Berlin, she received a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles in 2003. Her work has been subsidized by the North America fellowship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and by a scholarship of the Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur (NaFöG). Her portraits were shown at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, Ca. (2003), at CalArts in Vaencia (2002) and at the Kunstverein Regensburg (2005), among others. She was a Solitude fellow in 2007/2008.
Henrietta Rose-Innes (*1971 in Cape Town/South Africa) teaches creative writing at the University of Cape Town. Her first novel »Shark’s Egg« was published in 2000; a second book, »The Rock Alphabet« was released in 2004. Her short stories and essays have been published widely and were granted numerous awards. In 2008, Rose-Innes was given the Caine Prize for African Literature. She was a Solitude fellow in 2007.
Haegue Yang (*1971 in Seoul/South Korea) studied art at the Cooper Union in New York and at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule in Frankfurt a. Main. She was a master student in the class of Georg Herold. Yang regularly shows her work in international exhibitions, recently in London, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Los Angeles. Haegue Yang was awarded the Cremer Preis of the Stiftung Sammlung Cremer in 2005. In 2003 she received a grant from the Delfina Studio Trust in London and was laureate of the Maria-Sybilla-Merian Prize from the State of Hessia/Germany. Haegue Yang lives and works in Berlin and Seoul. She was a Solitude fellow in 2007/2008.
