Care work in the form of care for others assumes a special importance in these challenging times. The basis for our life as a society, it is the mainstay of our interconnectedness as humans – and also as living beings within a complex ecosystem exhibiting countless interdependencies. How can we create a shared sense of responsibility in a moment of crisis to refocus our collective attention on the core issues of mindfulness and care for people and nature? How can we embark on a new start into an uncertain future as a caring community?

On September 24 through 25, the architect duo Bureau Baubotanik invites you to attend the launch of their project »Acting Care! A Performance on the Meadow« and explore new ways of being together. In Bad Boll, the two architects Hannes Schwertfeger and Oliver Storz, together with the artists Niki Matita and Florian Model, are creating an installation in a meadow which is designed to serve as a venue for visitors from near and far to test out the future of a new culture of care in public space. The work’s focus is placed on 60 small-leaved linden trees that will grow together over a period of five to ten years and cover technical components. Part of the installation is also a clearly marked open space that offers existing residents and visitors to the community the opportunity to express their respective wishes and ideas. As a stage, the meadow at the heart of Bad Boll thus becomes not only a place of education, but also invites the further development of  cultural techniques with no fixed outcome.

The event will be held in German. Admission is free.

PROGRAM

10 am to 11 am

Act I »The Future of Work Introduces Itself«
Meadow at Badstraße 62, Bad Boll

The performance begins with an open workshop led by Florian Model on the theme of »work« in the imaginative space of the experimental field. The discussion concerns working conditions in general and the technique of play as a form of togetherness in particular. This is where work environment meets free space, and radical upheavals meet utopian philosophizing. Psychologists talk to counsellors and works council members – and a playgroup joins in.

11.30 am to 12.30 pm

»Kinship Constellations«
Meadow at Badstraße 62, Bad Boll

A participatory performance and embodied exercise with artist Christina Maria Pfeifer about the relationships between human and non-human living beings.

2 pm to 3:30 pm

Act II »Caring with Others«
Evangelische Akademie Bad Boll

In the second act, Baubotanik’s envisioning of care work is presented in the form of an artist talk at the Protestant Academy in Bad Boll and accompanied by film loops from videographer Sabrina Schray. All the artists involved in the project will meet here for a public discussion entitled »Where is the public space in Bad Boll, or researching the growth behavior of small-leaved linden trees«.

4 pm to 6 pm

Akt III »Solidarity Makes Work«
Meadow at Badstraße 62, Bad Boll

In the third act, artist and cultural anthropologist Niki Matita moderates a workshop discussion on the topic »Solidarity Makes Work« featuring individuals affected by these issues and CARE workers involved in the project, who are given a voice both in the performative imaginative space as well as on the airwaves. Visitors to the meadow are encouraged to listen actively to a subsequently installed audio recording, as well as to reflect on unusual promises for the future.

10 am to 1 pm

Akt V »Meeting of Future Diplomats«
Evangelische Akademie Bad Boll & meadow at Badstraße 62, Bad Boll

The final act on Sunday morning is designed as a meeting for all, bringing together future diplomats for the unknown. Here, artists meet regional and external experts.

Stakeholders from the participating institutions meet decision-makers from the region and employees from their administration, with attendees from afar encountering those on the ground, of course always »Under Utopia«.

»Acting Care!« is a production of Bureau Baubotanik within the context of the festival ÜBER:MORGEN, hosted by the KulturRegion Stuttgart, and is taking place in cooperation with the municipality of Bad Boll, WALA Heilmittel GmbH, the Evangelische Akademie Bad Boll, the Stiftung Lebenshilfe Zollernalb and the fellowship program »Under Utopia« initiated by Akademie Schloss Solitude and the artist duo Geers/Drescher.
