José Carlos Teixeira

Geboren 1977 in Porto/Portugal.

José Carlos Teixeira erhielt seinen Master of Fine Arts vom Interdisziplinären Institut der University of California (UCLA) in Los Angeles nachdem er bereits an der NYU in New York, der Universidad del Pais Vasco (Universität des Baskenlands) in Bilbao, Spanien und der Universität von Porto, Portugal studiert hatte. In Porto arbeitete er intensiv mit dem Serralves Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst zusammen.

In seinen künstlerischen Arbeiten, die meist interdisziplinärer Natur sind, beschäftigt er sich vorwiegend mit den Themen Abgrenzung, Identität und Sprache. Seine Videos und Installationen wurden in vielen Ausstellungen, auf Festivals und bei Filmvorführungen in Europa und den USA gezeigt.

Teixeiras Arbeiten finden sich in verschiedenen Kunstsammlungen u. a. in der Aberdeen Art Gallery Collection, Schottland und der PLMJ Foundation in Lissabon, Portugal.

Er erhielt zahlreiche Stipendien und Preise wie z. B. das Fulbright-Stipendium/Carmona & Costa Foundation, das Gulbenkian/FLAD-Stipendium, den Samuel Booth-Preis und einige Stipendien der University of California (UCLA).
