Symposium: Moving in a Smarter City

Die Bedeutung der Städte als Lebensraum von Menschen wächst zunehmend. Mehr als die Hälfte der Menschheit lebt heute in Städten – sie sind der Motor der wirtschaftlichen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung. Mit Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts transformieren sich die Städte durch die neuen Möglichkeiten der Mobilität: Die individuelle Kombination verschiedener Transport- und Kommunikationsmittel ermöglicht den Stadtbewohnern ein neues urbanes Leben und schafft die Grenze zwischen öffentlichem und privatem Raum immer mehr ab.

Das Symposium »Moving in a Smarter City« widmet sich der Fragestellung, welchem gesellschaftlichen Wandel die Städte unterliegen und welche Herausforderungen an die Mobilität von morgen gestellt werden. Das postindustrielle Zeitalter gründet sich auf Multimedialität, Flexibilität, technologische und individuelle Information, nicht nur in Industrienationen. Wie aber sehen die »smart cities« (William J. Mitchell, MIT) von übermorgen aus?

An dem Symposium nehmen neben Künstlern, Architekten und Städtebauplanern Vertreter von Unternehmen wie Vinci Park, DaimlerChrysler, der Fondation Internet Nouvelle Génération u. a. teil. Zur Eröffnung am Donnerstagabend werden der Oberbürgermeister der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster und der französische Soziologe Bruno Marzloff sprechen.

Aufgrund der internationalen Teilnehmer wird das Symposium in englischer Sprache gehalten.

Hubs: In the 1990s, »hubs« referred to the optimization of air-transport systems and the modification of flow within physical networks. Today, this »distributed« mobility is changing scale: with the diversification of transportation systems, hubs operate throughout the urban network and modify the very concept of urban mobility.
